Fitness destinations in Northwest Portland aren’t all indoor gyms or studios. There is plenty of space within the city limits dedicated to hiking and biking trails, jogging, basketball courts and lots of green grass and trees to foster a sense of natural serenity amid the urban backdrop.
Jamison Square is located in the heart of the Pearl District and it includes some grassy sprawl to complement the jogging and cycling trails that cut through this city block. it is located at Northwest Johnson Street and Northwest 11th Avenue. The Portland Streetcar makes a stop at this intersection, and there is limited street parking available in the area. Northwest Portland residents will have no trouble simply walking, jogging or cycling to the area.
Jamison Square provides a nice pit stop for cyclists or joggers catching some exercise in the area, and Northwest Portland residents seeking an outdoor site to practice yoga, tai chi or the like will appreciate the grass on which they may lay out a mat and connect with nature while toning their bodies. There is a fountain in the middle of the square, though playing in it is not recommended as it is shallow and the water isn’t Portland’s cleanest. However, it does provide a watery ambient soundtrack for exercisers in the square, and the various pieces of public art add some culture to the area while informing visitors of the history each piece represents.
Visit Jamison Square today to appreciate the blend of urban and nature Northwest Portland so uniquely provides!
