PDX Northwest makes it easy to find group cycling rides that begin in Northwest Portland. One great starting place is Fat Tire Farm, located at 2714 Northwest Thurman Street, where each Thursday night a group ride heads toward Forest Park. TriMet Bus Line 15 stops at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Thurman, directly in front of Fat Tire Farm, and the parking lot offers several spots to provide an alternative to street parking (which is free in this neighborhood).
Northwest Portland cyclists are encouraged to ride down to the parking lot of Fat Tire Farm on Thursday evenings to gather at 6 p.m. between spring and fall—since the riding conditions are often too wet and dark throughout the rest of the year. The ride isn’t officially sponsored by Fat Tire Farm or any other group, so riders are responsible for their own equipment, safety and assessment of skills; some of the rides may pass through tricky territory for novices, while other Thursday night group rides are planned to be as simple as possible.
